St Dominic’s Sixth Form College Chapel
St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in Harrow is fortunate to have a beautiful chapel, acting as a central focus for the ethos of the school as a whole. The chapel recently underwent a significant refurbishment, part of which was to replace the sound system to cater for a wide range of activities from Mass and school assemblies to concerts and even weddings. The building is highly reverberant so D&B E0 loudspeakers are distributed at regular intervals and driven at relatively low level to avoid exciting the reverberant field as much as possible for to achieve speech intelligibility. A larger pair of E8s provides the band with a bit of punch with the option of adding an E12 sub in the future.
The lectern features a pair of industry standard AKG747s and was carefully modified by our craftsmen. New Sennheiser G3 300 wireless offers the convenience of charging cradles for the bodypacks and remote mute switches so the clergy can mute themselves without having to fish deep in their pockets for the bodypack.
An Allen and Heath 16:2 mixer is connected to a 16-way wall box with Radial DIs for electronic instruments to keep everything clean and buzz free. The install also included a hearing loop and light oak cabinets to match the new décor. Three training sessions were held to ensure multiple members of staff became conversant with the system for its various applications.
We’re now currently working on a sound system in a multipurpose lecture theatre space on the same site.
