Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra

When the newly formed Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra performed for the first time in October last year, marking the start of an ambitious plan of musical revival in Qatar, About Sound was on hand to guarantee audio for simultaneous live TV Broadcast and retrospective DVD.

Under the baton of world renowned conductor Maestro Lorin Maazel, Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, the orchestra performed Beethoven's Symphony No.5 and Maurice Ravel's Bolero. This was followed by the world premiere of Arabian Concerto, a specially commissioned piece by Lebanese composer Marcel Khalifé.

The first performance of Qatar's new national symphony orchestra was attended by the royal family of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation. The concert was also broadcast live regionally. Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra is an initiative of Qatar's flagship organization the Qatar Foundation. The development of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra is aimed at encouraging greater appreciation of classical music in the region and inspiring the reemergence of orchestral Arabian music.
