Philharmonic Hall Liverpool
The stunning Art Demo Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool is home to the equally stunning Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra who are currently winning awards left, right and centre with their 2010 Brit Award Winning Male Artist of the Year conductor Vasily Petrenko. About Sound were asked to install Servoreeler to capture performances, avoiding technicians venturing into the hazardous roof space.
The microphone layout was specified by Andrew Cornall, the general manager of the orchestra and ex Decca producer. Four minature DPA omins cover are spaced across the front of the stage with two additional miniature DPA wide cardioids across the woodwind.
The system is controlled by a custom hand held remote which can be used within line of sight on the stage itself to fine tune positions. The install was particularly challenging due to the nature of the roof space and the sculpted bevels of the roof which neccessitated custom pulley arms to dispense the cable over the edges of these architectural features.
